For this perennial flowerbed we’ve chosen large, decorative grasses and perennials with gorgeous, contrasting leaves and spikes swaying gracefully in the slightest breeze.
Grass, is an impressive 180 cm tall, with decorative airy spikes that turn shiny silver-white at the end of summer.
Another very decorative grass has reddish-brown flowers and green-white foliage, which turns bright purple with a white stripe down the middle in autumn. It forms a cluster of vase-shaped, slightly overhanging leaves at a height of 150 cm.
Combining these two with a third gras which grows in a dense, steep rounded fountain-like clump, you can create a wonderful bed of bentgrass, which is decorative not only in summer, but also in winter.
Reed grasses will complement the reddish shades and lacy leaves of the bugbane and its white spikes in fall. In the summer, yellow heleniums and orange coral bells will bloom beautifully among the grasses.
Reed grasses should be protected from excessive winter moisture and the foliage should be cut at the end of winter, before the first shoots appear.
